A day & night blind runs alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands on a continuous loop. Align the bands and you get filtered light with real privacy — useful on a Tamboerskloof street where a sectional-title block's living-room glass often looks straight onto the pavement. Offset the bands and the mountain or city view most of these apartments are bought for comes right back.

It's the "sheer plus blind in one" pitch, and it earns its place on Tamboerskloof's mixed housing stock: a wide apartment window that needs privacy from neighbours without losing the outlook, or a street-facing Victorian lounge where the sash is original but the street has got busier since it was built.

Honest limitations

Even fully offset, a day & night blind isn't true blockout — some light seeps at the band edges. For a bedroom that needs total dark, we'd steer you to a blockout roller instead, or a layered combination. The sheer bands are also more delicate than a solid fabric near small hands or claws, and moisture-sensitive fabrics aren't the right call for a steamy bathroom — aluminium venetians do that job better.

Fitting on an original sash

Standard roller hardware means it mounts inside the reveal the same way a roller blind does — a furnishing decision on the frame, not a change to the facade. Chain or motorised control, cassette options if you want the headrail hidden.
